Tuesday, February 12th, several students from Manor View's advanced string groups spent their day at Meade High School for an all day string festival. Students from every Meade feeder elementary school were challenged to learn four songs, rehearse them during the school day, and showcase their hard work at a concert that night. This year the students worked with Mrs. Vanderwagon, the MacArthur orchestra teacher, and tackled four songs throughout the day. In years prior, the groups were only able to pull off three songs. This speaks highly of the talent of this years students. They focused, persevered, learned, and laughed throughout the day before putting on an amazing performance that night for friends and family. Thank you James, Katherine, Asher, Nicci, and Rahami for a wonderful day of music and all of your hard work. One of my favorite moments was the look on their faces that night when the high school orchestra played. Every child lit up with joy and fascination as they listened and pondered if their musical carrier will one day bring them to that level. Music is all around us, it is a form of communication and meditation, with music, great things will happen.
