Our school art website on Artsonia has been updated on this snow day! Artsonia is an online art gallery, where Ms. Black photographs all the students artwork. She has tried to send emails to all parents to get permission to have your students artwork to be viewed online. Purchases with your child's work can be ordered, and a portion goes to our school. This helps me get new supplies to use in the art room with the kids. Purchases are not necessary though, but it is a great way to maintain e-portfolios. We have currently raised almost 106$ this year in funds. If you have not be contacted about Artsonia, please email Ms. Black([email protected]).
This month many of our students will be looking at artwork mad eby African Americans in celebration of Black History Month. The 1st graders are looking at Alma Woodsey Thomas, who was originally an art teacher and began to make work in her older years. The 2nd graders are writing stories to go along with their Cave Paintings as part of their current PYP/IB Unit. The 3rd graders are starting a Project Based Learning project in collaboration with Mrs. Au (EEE Teacher) and are learning the traditional Chinese Symbols for parts of the school and will be making clay tiles to be hung up around the Office, Cafeteria, and Bathrooms. The 4th graders are learning about the Underground Railroad and the significance of Harriet Tubman as she helped lead many slaves to freedom. They are creating freedom quilts using codes that were used along the Underground Railroad trail out of paper. The 5th graders are learning about the Geometric Designs painted by the women of the Ndebele Tribe in South Africa. They will be painting and doing some color theory.
