The 1st Marking Period just ended and Ms. Black is amazed with the artwork that all of the students are producing. The 4th and 5th graders have been learning how to sew by making Food Soft Sculptures and Calvera Soft Sculptures (Inspired by the Day of the Dead). 5th grade will be looking at artist Jim Dine who is a printmaker and became famous for his prints and drawings of hardware tools. He was inspired byhis childhood working along side his father in his workshop. The 4th graders will be starting a unit focusing on Landscapes of Pumpkins at Night. They will be learning about the parts if a landscape, value, and space in Art. 3rd graders will be correlating with their current PYP Unit of "How We Organize Ourselves" and learning about how rainforests how organized. Did you know there are 4 layers of the rainforest? As inspiration will look at the artwork of Henri Rosseau. The 2nd graders are looking at Inuit artists as part of their current PYP Theme, "Where We Are In Place and Time." The Inuit are an Indigenous group and students are learning about their lifestyle as it is very cold in North Canada, and more commonly known as Eskimos. Kenojuak Ashevak, one of the most well known artists to come from that region was born in an actual igloo!!!!!! The 1st graders are on the current PYP/IB Theme of"How The World Works," and are learning about the Moon ( more specifically its properties and Lunar Phases). The Moon goes through a cycle every 28 days!!!!!!!! They are using some painting techniques to create stars and possibly drawing some constellations. As always, thank you for your continued support!!!!!!!
